Raspberry Jam
Long car rides across often-travelled
other worldly trails
Pack your sleepover-bag
hold your breath and sing
melodies that drift from the tightly shut
car doors to the overheated
tupperware fruit,
twins propped up on
booster seats
security songs
mama the words
they look a little bent
Did you pack the kickboards?
What about my hairbrush—
parking spots parking spots
roll over the gravel parking lots
Move over, I can’t get through.
Can you go any faster?
I swear I didn’t eat all the raspberries.
Yeah well the only ones left look like raspberry jam.
Flower covered vine enclosed gates
the gravel path has such a nice sound, don’t you think—
watch out for the bee over there—
no I didn’t say run away.
sing until the sun sets
red-orange-red-no-name-orange
Cross the ice blue water
Hot chocolate or ice cream? I don’t mind…
Maybe next weekend?
All in good time.
repeat the songs with distance mountains
do you see the skyscrapers?
That’s our city, you and me
that’s our city…
